Sharks Board KwaZulu-Natal

Before the dissection

This morning we went on an exhibition to the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board.
Which was very interessting and educational. Three local pre-schools attened as well and it was fun to see how the kids were responding to the amusing presentation from one of the Shark Board Members.
First we got to see an audiovisual presentation, which was very informative about sharks in general and the shark saftey gear. An approx. 350km shark net along the coast protects bathers from shark attacks. The shark nets do not form a barrier, or shark fence though. Instead, the nets act like fishing decives - by fishing for sharks that come close to the protected beaches. This reduces the chance of an encounter between a shark and a swimmer. They said there havn't been any shark attacks for 50 years now.
So it is quite safe for us to go swimming here in the ocean, unless you are bleeding or swim at night...
